September 28, 2006 FINAL REPORT
OF HAWK GOLF III - GOLFING WITH A GOAL Beneath a sky somewhat overcast but gradually turning blue, thirty golfers, somewhat overweight and rapidly turning gray, participated in Hawk Golf III on Friday, August 4, 2006, at the Atlantic Country Club in Plymouth, MA. The event was a huge success both as a fundraiser and as a reunion. Treasurer and major domo, Tom Kelly, reports that total revenues were $17,130 and expenses were $3,287.50. Thanks, therefore, to the generosity of the Class of ’67, Hawk Golf III returned $13,842.50 to the Burma Border Project, enabling Dr. Jack McCarthy (“Hawk”) and his wife, Dr. Peggy Bacon to continue their work in the refugee camps on the Burma/Thailand border. The golfers were Jack Avis, Jim Brett, John Brouillard, Matt Byrne, Jim Delehaunty, Jim Dyer, George Finley, Mike Foley, Michael Forhan ('71 and BBP Executive Director), John Gorter, Bill Hays, Phil Howe, Bob Jacques, Bob Kavanaugh, Tom Kelly, Bob Kelly (Yale ’37 and Tom’s father), Paul Kerns, Tony Kopec, Mike Lambert, Bob Lawson (’68), Bob Maldonis, Bill McCarthy, Jack McCarthy (somewhat), Jay McLaughlin (almost), Andy McElaney, Harry Mulry, Bob O’Keefe, Jim Reynolds, Steve Seery, Bill Tosches, John Tunney and Jim Wilson. The official Hawk Golf III Photographer and Webmaster is Paul Keleher. Paul has established the HC Classs of '67 Website; the URL is www.HC67.org. Visit our new website for photographs of the event, as well as some notes and observations. Those who could not join us either for golf or for dinner but who nonetheless generously made donations to Hawk’s Burma Border Project include Al Barber, Neil Bowen (BBP), James Brett (Jim’s son), Margaret Brett (Jim’s daughter), Blue Front Telecom (Jim’s client), Charlie Cangemi, Kevin Condron, Bill Downey, Paul Doyle, Stuart Graham, Jack Heuisler, Jim Kavanaugh (friend of Tom Kelly), Pete Kimener, Bob Kumor, Jack Lentz, Fred Lewis, Bob Massey, Jim McCarthy, Terrence McDermott (friend of Jim Brett), Will McEachern, John Miles, Steven Miller (friend of Jim Brett), Mike Monjoy, Bob Moran, Jack Moynihan, Jim Mulhern, Chris O’Connell, Tom Osgood, Joe Sack, John Sindoni, Michael Ross (friend of Jim Brett) and Larry Wilson. Superb raffle prizes were donated by golf and dinner guests and included Red Sox tickets (for games when they mattered), a Nike golf bag (claimed by yours truly – thanks, George Fin), rounds of golf at various clubs, boxes of golf balls, bottles of wine, gift baskets, windbreakers, Thai silk scarves, etc. Thanks to all who
